The short version

  • Your clipboard history is stored on your Mac and never leaves it, unless you choose to send an item to Copse Cloud AI.
  • Copse has no account, no cloud sync and no analytics or tracking in the app.
  • The app makes a small, fixed set of network requests: license checks, update checks and, only if you turn them on, link previews. None of them contain clipboard content.
  • This website uses cookieless Cloudflare Web Analytics. Payments are handled by Dodo Payments.

Who we are

Copse is made by [Legal name of the developer], an independent developer based in India (“we”, “us”). This policy covers the Copse app for macOS, the Copse for Chrome browser extension, Copse Cloud AI, and this website. Questions go to copse@mayankbuilds.com.

The Copse app

What the app stores, and where

To work, Copse keeps a history of what you copy: the content itself (text, rich text, links, images, files and so on), which app it came from, when you copied it, and, when available, the web page it was copied from. This history is stored only on your Mac, in ~/Library/Application Support/Copse/, in a folder only your user account can read.

You stay in control: delete any item, clear your whole history from the menu bar, pause capture, or exclude apps. When you delete an item or clear your history, it's removed from that store. If you uninstall Copse, delete that folder to remove your history completely.

What the app never captures

  • Items that password managers and other apps mark as concealed or transient (for example, a password copied from 1Password or the Passwords app).
  • Anything copied in an app you've excluded in Settings.
  • Copse's own pastes, so nothing is recorded twice.

The Copse palette is hidden from screen sharing and screen recording by default. Clipboard content is never written to system logs or crash reports.

No analytics, no account

The app contains no analytics, advertising or tracking code, and needs no account. We don't know what you copy, how often you open Copse, or which features you use.

Every network request the app makes

These are the only connections Copse makes. None of them include clipboard content.

1. License activation and checks

When you enter your license key, and roughly every one to two weeks after that, Copse contacts our licensing service (backed by Dodo Payments) to confirm the license. It sends:

  • your license key;
  • a one-way hash of your Mac's hardware ID, so the same Mac isn't counted twice (the hash can't be turned back into the ID);
  • your Mac's name, so you can recognize it when managing activations;
  • the Copse version.

Copse keeps working offline for a grace period, so an occasional failed check changes nothing.

2. Update checks

Copse uses Sparkle to check for updates. It downloads a signed update feed, and later the update itself, from our update server. Like any web request this reveals your IP address and the app version; Copse doesn't send a system profile with it. Alongside the feed, Copse may fetch a small signed configuration file (for example, updated detection rules for sensitive data). It contains no information about you.

3. Link previews and site icons (optional)

If you turn on link previews, Copse fetches the preview or icon directly from the website a link points to. That website sees your IP address, as it would if you visited it. Nothing passes through our servers, and this is off unless you turn it on.

AI features

AI actions only run when you ask for them, on an item you choose. How that item is handled depends on the option you pick:

  • On-device (Apple Foundation Models). The item is processed on your Mac and never leaves it.
  • Your own key or a local model. The item is sent directly from your Mac to the provider you configured (such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini or OpenRouter), or to a local model server such as Ollama or LM Studio. It doesn't pass through us, and that provider's own privacy terms apply.
  • Copse Cloud AI (optional credits). The text of the item you chose, the action and the model tier are sent to our AI service over an encrypted connection, along with a signed token that identifies your license (not your license key). We pass the text to our AI model provider to generate the result, stream the result back to you, and record only the number of credits used. We don't log or keep the content. The model provider we use will be named here before Copse Cloud AI launches.

Copse for Chrome

The optional extension adds the page's address, title and icon to items you copy in Chromium browsers (Chrome, Arc, Brave, Edge and others). When you copy on a web page, it reads the page address, title and icon link, and the selection you copied, and hands them to the Copse app on your Mac through the browser's native messaging channel. The app uses them only to label the item that matches what you copied.

  • The extension sends nothing to us or to any server.
  • It requests only the permissions it needs to do this.
  • It contains no analytics.
  • You can turn off page info in Copse's Settings, pause capture, or remove the extension at any time.

This website

This site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes technical data such as your IP address to deliver pages and protect the site from abuse.

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits. It doesn't use cookies or local storage, doesn't fingerprint you, and doesn't track you across sites. We see aggregate numbers only, such as page views, referring sites, countries and browser types. This site sets no cookies of its own and has no ads or social trackers.

Buying Copse

Purchases are handled by Dodo Payments, which acts as the merchant of record: it processes your payment, handles sales tax and VAT, and sends your receipt. Dodo Payments collects your name, email address, billing country and payment details under its own privacy policy. We never see your full card details.

We receive your email address, what you bought, your license key, and your order and refund status. We use them only to deliver and support your license (including Copse Cloud AI credits), handle refunds, and contact you about your purchase. We don't send marketing email unless you opt in.

Support and feedback

If you email us or send feedback from the app, we receive what you send: your email address, your message and anything you attach. Diagnostics attached to feedback from the app are scrubbed first and never include clipboard content. We use it only to help you and improve Copse, and delete support email we no longer need.

Who we share data with

We don't sell or rent personal data, and we don't share it for advertising. We use a few service providers to run Copse:

  • Dodo Payments: payments, taxes and license keys.
  • Cloudflare: website hosting and analytics, update delivery, and the licensing and Copse Cloud AI services.
  • Our AI model provider: only for Copse Cloud AI requests you choose to make.
  • Our email provider: to receive and answer support email.

We may disclose data if the law requires it, and we'd tell you where we're allowed to.

How long we keep data

  • Your clipboard history: on your Mac, for as long as you keep it. We never have a copy.
  • Purchase and license records: as long as your license is active, plus what tax law requires.
  • Copse Cloud AI: the credit balance and usage counts on your license. Never the content.
  • Support email: as long as needed to help you, then deleted.

Your rights

Wherever you live, you can ask us for a copy of the data we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to how we use it. Email copse@mayankbuilds.com and we'll reply within 30 days. If you're in the EU, UK or another region with data-protection law, you can also complain to your local authority. Our legal bases for processing are performing our contract with you (licenses, purchases, credits), our legitimate interest in running a secure website, and your consent (optional features).

Children

Copse isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data.

Changes to this policy

If we change how Copse handles data, we'll update this page and the date above. For meaningful changes, we'll also say so in the changelog before they take effect.
